Mother's Day

For Mother's Day, we decorated Hershey's chocolate bars for our Mothers. We made wordles using words that describe our mother. Mrs. B. came up with the idea and she did it with her first grade class, the Bobcats.

Field Trip to Erie

BubbleShare: Share photos - Easy Photo Sharing

The Global Gorillas went on a field trip to Erie. They learned about a ship called the Brig Niagara. The Niagara was built in 1811. It was in the war of 1812, and it was built over five times. In the bottom of the ship there was 70 people sleeping. The U.S. won the battle because we had 2 ships, and that made it hard for the British. The British ship had more ammunition, but the U.S. pulled it together and won.

The Global Gorillas went inside of the museum and got to put Zachery, Spencer, and my heads in a replica of the Brig Niagara. We got to see a movie about the battle on Lake Erie. Plus I got to see where the canon balls from the British ship hit the Niagara. Plus we got to see how they lift up from the wind to block it. When I get older I want to work for them.

Leprechaun Traps

Today the Gorillas video conferenced with Mrs. Blazosky's (Room B7) first grade students. Room B7 wrote stories and made Leprechaun traps that they wanted to share with us. The traps were extremely creative and the stories were fabulous. Here are a few shots from our skype conference.

Class Literature Circles

Every month Mrs. Abernethy's Global Gorillas read different books. Then every week they do a project about their books. They present their projects to the whole class! It's so amazing to see all the fantastic work the class puts into their literature circle projects. Students sit on a red chair called the hot seat to present their projects. The way they present them makes it fantastic to watch. Some students in the class are shy and they don't speak very loud. I don't know what they have to be shy about. Projects are presented every Friday! Students must put their name, their book's title, and their book's author on the projects. Please check out our Literature Circle Blog to view some projects! There are some example below. Bye!!!!

My Weekend with Kayla G.

On Fri. we watched TV and I got to meet Kayla's bird, Buddy. He is so cool, because he can say "Hello," "What's up," and a lot more. On Saturday, we went to a sleepover at her friend's house. Their names are Isaiah and Mercedes. There we played hide 'n seek and we set up Mercede's tent. It was a lot of fun too. Then on Sunday, we went shopping and had a birthday party for her friend Mason. He just turned three. My weekend with Kayla G. was so fun. Then we had to get up and go to school, but we had fun.

Newton's First Law of Motion

By: Kylee and Megan

We learned about Newton's First Law of Motion. Newton's First Law is an object at rest stays at rest unless a force acts on it; an object in motion stays in motion unless a force acts on it. This was our science lesson. Here are some pictures showing examples of Newton's First Law.

Technology

By: Abram

Technology with the Global Gorillas is great! We have 8 general computers, a SMART board, DVD/VCR hooked up to the SMART board, a laptop only used for Audacity, an ACER LPC (Little Pink Computer) Mrs. A's Laptop, and Mrs. A's Desktop. Not only that, but there is a cabinet chock full of laptops upstairs plus a cart comes down for our classroom twice a week. We also have some tech whizs.

Study Island

By: Nathan
Today I learned about Study Island. It is a program on the computer that helps students on math, reading, and writing. It also helps them to get ready for the PSSA test. The PSSA test is a big test that shows how well they are doing in math and reading. The students earn ribbons for answering questions correctly. They can even play games on Study Island. My favorite game is Slingshot. The point of the game is to fling the man (with a helmet and parachute) as far as you can.

Here is a link to Study Island in case you want to try it out too.

The Schoolyard Habitat

Uploaded on authorSTREAM by globalgorillas

This is the amazing habitat. I love it here! It gives homes to many animals. I don't think there are any gorillas, though. There are many flowers and it looks beautiful in the spring and summer. In fall the students pull weeds and rake leaves. They even plant flower bulbs that bloom in the spring. In the spring, there's lots of work, too.

Here more about the habitat from my friend, Morpheus Fortuna.
